Kitchen design trends come and go, what’s hot today may not be so hot
tomorrow. If you’re planning a
kitchen remodel or just planning on a kitchen
facelift, how can you be sure that what you choose will stand the test of time
and not shortly look dated?

When consulting with my clients my advice is “choose the highest quality
materials within your kitchen remodeling budget and pick what you like”.
Sounds easy yet can be a daunting task.

Realistically since you’re living with your decisions it’s important to like the
kitchen tile you’ll be installing whether you’re tiling yourself or hiring a
tile installation contractor to complete your project.
Today granite countertops rule supreme followed by soild surface materials
such as Silestone, Corian and concrete. Tile countertops though not as
popular as it once was has continued to be at the cutting edge of kitchen
design trends especially in regards to the backsplash.
Tiles in glass, travertine, granite, marble, slate and other natural stones
have proven to have the staying power that homeowners can be sure to
get the best  return on investment by:

A.        Warming up contemporary kitchen designs
B.        Adding texture to smooth surfaces and straight lines.
C.        Appealing to a wide array of styles and tastes.

Glass tiles in mosaic and subway tile patterns have emerged as popular
alternatives to natural stone tiles and are very easy to maintain in
cooking areas where grease can be a problem and don’t forget about
ceramic and porcelain tiles available in a variety of shapes, sizes and
finishes unheard of just a few years ago. Stainless steel tiles and bronze
tile inserts can add just what is needed to a boring tile pattern on your
kitchen backsplash.

Don’t be satisfied with the ordinary. Sometimes just having another
person involved with the planning of your kitchen design can infuse the
creative juices necessary for a project moving forward.
Hiring a design professional will have its weight worth in gold since a
professional kitchen designer is up to date on the latest trends and can
suggest what would benefit your remodeling project to its fullest potential.

Think about it this way. Have you ever flipped through a kitchen and
bathroom design magazine looking for solutions to your design
dilemmas only to come away more confused? Your design professional
can help since they have seen up close the final products hundreds of

If you’re stuck on what tile to put in your kitchen consider the function
and get professional advice on the practical aspects of the tile you’re
considering. The web is a great place to start looking.

Installing tile that looks nice but doesn’t last or hold up to everyday use
is unwise no matter what today’s trends are.
The iridescent quality of the glass tile changes in appearance
with the movement of the sunlight looking completely different
at night.
